At one point in its history Wahpeton was named Chahinkapa. Chahinkapa is a Lakota Sioux word meaning “the end of the woods”. Wahpeton’s primary city park is called Chahinkapa Park.
In Chahinkapa Park you will find a public swimming pool with water slide, a skate park, playgrounds and swings, softball and baseball diamonds, football and soccer fields, sandpit volleyball, a golf course, and our nationally renowned zoo, Chahinkapa Zoo.
Bois de Sioux Golf Course is the only golf course in the United States of America to have 9 holes in one state and 9 holes in a different state.
